National Geographic Photo Contest 2012

Some very exciting news from me to you!!!

I decided to submit my chicken feet photo into the National Geographic Photo Contest, and I can't believe it, but it is in the running to making it to the final level! YAHOO!
If you are a travel-hungry-photography-loving individual such as myself, you can probably appreciate all the wonderful submissions on National Geographic. They have some amazing shots!

I would be honoured if you could vote for my photo by clicking here.

You can see my chicken feet under "Sense of Place" in the week 2 selection. Each day is a new day and therefore you can cast your vote again and again, but even voting once means so much to me!

Love you all! XO

Falso's in full bloom

Well spring is finally here on the west coast, and now that the Canucks are out of the playoffs, we can all go back to focusing our attention on the beautiful weather! My friend Teresa and I thought we would take advantage of all this nice sunshine, and head down to the Seawall in Yaletown to take some cute shots of her kiddies!

Take a look at the fun we had in the sun, and please...let there be more!

Edit time!

Growing up, I was always fascinated by the effects of photoshopping. I love playing around on my computer, and believe it or not, editing is 50% of the reason why I love photography so much! Winter can be a great time to get out there and take some snow white photos, but spring and summer tend to be the months when people are looking to get photos taken. I have been waiting for spring sun to finally arrive, and I thought before all the real shooting takes place, I would show you a couple fun before and afters.

Ok, this picture was taken on my iphone 3GS (ya, nothing too impressive), and I have to say, at first glance, this photo is VERY unimpressive. But, I knew based on how dramatic the clouds were that day, something great would come out of it!

*Also, one thing to note, the second is not an identical photo, because when I edited on my phone settings, it replaced the original. There was about a 2 second time difference.

Here's how I did it.

1. Took the photo on regular settings using the "Camera +" app. ( I live by it)
2. Using the edit button, I first clicked clarify, then under the 'FX Effects' tab, I chose color and picked 'So Emo'
3. I saved my photo to my camera roll.
4. Then I opened my newly saved photo with my "Tilt Shift" app. (I live by this even more!)
5. I chose a line across where I only wanted that particular area in focus, and again saved the image to my camera roll.
6. Finally, just when you think you should stop because your editing brain is going crazy, I opened my saved image into "Instagram"and chose 'Lo-fi'. I also removed the scratchy border.
7. Et voila! Formidable!

This next photo was taken in Portland, Oregon. Backlit photos are so impressive, and really are special photos. I am trying to shoot more subjects with light coming from behind them. This shot of Miss E. was taken on a beautiful day around 4:00 in the afternoon.

What was tough about editing this photo, was removing the strands of hair from her face. I am sure there is a much easier route to this (using photoshop), but being an avid Aperture user, I very carefully used my retouch brush. I warmed the photo by altering my colors towards the yellow spectrum, and brightened the photo as well.

Once I was happy with the touches I made in Aperture I exported my photo and re-imported it into Lightroom. I used an MCP Action which gave me the perfect look! And I love it! It's bright, colourful and angelic!

This next one of my good friend Nathalie was taken on a very cloudy day. Cloudy days are great to shoot in because you don't get shadows from the sun casting down, or squinting.
Nat didn't need much of anything done to achieve the look of this photo. She is just so darn photogenic, and beautiful already!

What I did for this photo was enhance my colours to saturate the photo with more colour, as well as increase the contrast. She needed minimal skin smoothing, and for final touches I added a slight vignette. Bingo bango!

The world's best gift for that special someone!

So, I know I should be posting this around the February14th mark, but I just had to let you all know of the world's greatest gift! I found this online, here at and it is a must buy! I was shocked to see how great the quality was, and how quickly it arrived!

Here are the great things about the customized board game: First off, the picture on the board game itself just makes you laugh at first glance! May I suggest choosing a bright photo, and one that is special memory. After you place your order, email the customer service at Lovopoly and request them to crop out the background. (If you don't, your photo will be placed in a 4x6).

Second of all, the properties you buy (just like in Monopoly) are personalized for you and your special person. I chose some of the locations we have been together, and strategically placed them in order of our favourite place, to our most favourite places we've been!!! Therefore the most expensive "properties" to buy, are the best of the best! :) A cute touch!

For all you hopeless romantics, you're welcome <3
